How to prepare and submit this document
- 1 Ask HR for the official letterhead version. Most banks and embassies only accept salary certificates printed on official company letterhead with the company stamp. If HR has a pre-approved format, use it — otherwise generate this template and have HR transfer it to letterhead.
- 2 Enter gross salary and contract type exactly. State your gross monthly salary in AED (basic + allowances) as per your MOHRE contract. Under the 2026 labour law, all contracts are fixed-term; do not write "unlimited" — that signals an outdated document.
- 3 Get the authorized signatory and stamp. The certificate must be signed by an authorized signatory on the company trade license and bear the company stamp. Banks cross-check the signature against their records if you already have an account.
- 4 Submit with supporting documents. For bank loans, attach your 3-month bank statements, Emirates ID, and passport copy. For visa applications, attach the certificate to the visa file. For landlords, some accept the certificate alone, others want a post-dated cheque too.
Common mistakes that get this document rejected
- ✕ Writing net salary instead of gross — banks recalculate affordability using gross, and a mismatch triggers rejection
- ✕ Listing the contract type as "unlimited" — unlimited contracts were abolished in 2023, so this makes the certificate look fabricated or outdated
- ✕ Using a certificate older than 30 days for a new application — most institutions treat it as expired
- ✕ Missing the company stamp or having the certificate signed by someone not on the trade license signatory list
Frequently asked questions
Is a salary certificate mandatory for all UAE banks?
For personal loans, credit cards, and current accounts with cheque books, yes. For basic savings accounts with no credit facility, some digital banks (Liv, Mashreq Neo) waive it if you meet the minimum balance requirement.
Can I use my bank statement instead of a salary certificate?
For some purposes yes, but not for all. Embassies and landlords often accept 3-month bank statements as proof of income. Banks themselves usually require both the statement and the employer-issued certificate.
How long is a salary certificate valid?
There is no legal expiry, but in practice banks, embassies, and landlords treat certificates older than 30 days as stale. If your application is delayed, be prepared to request a fresh one.
